A unique global business involved in cosmetic packaging as well as manufacturing of colour cosmetics, skin care, fragrances and toiletries are looking for a New Product Development Manager to assist with their ever growing global client base.
The Product Development Manager is responsible for providing technical support as well as managing all aspects of the NPD process from concept to launch. Managing a team of formulation technologists you will work directly with clients and closely with other internal teams to design, develop and deliver new products and ranges of cosmetics. This involves working with external laboratories and third party contract manufacturers to ensure that the right products are delivered to customer briefs and in compliance with current legislation and specific customer standards.

KEY OBJECTIVES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage technical aspects of critical paths to ensure key dates are met
Develop effective strategies and procedures for improving efficiency of development process
Ensure systems and procedures are implemented to maintain and improve quality standards and minimise product non-conformance issues at every stage
Implementing corrective action plans for any quality, testing or other product non-conformance issues
Providing claims, test data and INCI lists to internal and external departments
Providing technical support internally and externally
Consolidating data for PIF files
Manage third party suppliers to ensure compliance with quality
standards and follow up on any quality issues
Developing collaborative supplier relations to increase and improve product
portfolio
Carrying out assessments of supplier suitability
Collaborate with R&D to develop new formulations
Ensure all developed products comply to legislations and specific customer
requirements
Using knowledge of technology and market trends to generate new and
innovative product ideas
Presenting products to customers and developing an excellent understanding
of their needs

SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in new product development in the
cosmetics industry, ideally with time spent in a laboratory environment
People management experience is desirable
Relevant scientific degree or equivalent qualification is desirable
Excellent working knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, raw material
suppliers and formulation techniques
Excellent Awareness of technologies, market trends and developments
Good commercial awareness
Experience in a customer facing role essential
Previous experience of working with contract manufacturers and far east
suppliers an advantage
Additional language skills would be an advantage, such as Spanish or
French.
Working knowledge of MS Office suite an advantage

Key Purpose
A packaging development and packaging quality assurance role to manage component, composite, and transit packaging demands across the business to ensure fit for consumer purpose, manufacturing suitability, compatibility, robustness in transit, and customer satisfaction. Knowledge and skills required
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of packaging components, materials and processes used by the colour cosmetic, fragrance and treatment industry along with the capability to continue to broaden industry knowledge and understand the interaction, limitations and requirements of these components and processes.
Would also consider related experience in a consumer products company with a large number of SKUs to manage.
Technical training and aptitude required, as are, excellent project management skills.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written are also required to be effective in this position.
A high level of creativity while not mandatory, is preferred.
